Apple has well evaluated the possible acquisition of McLaren, without follow-up

In
September, the Financial Times newspaper claimed that Apple wasin talks with luxury sports car maker McLaren,
for a possible total acquisition of the British firm by the giant
californien of tech.

A recent interview with Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren, provides some
details of this rumor of a possible takeover by Apple. The Cupertino company
would indeedengaged in conversation with McLarenand visited
their facilities, butwould never have made an offer.

Apple has certainly valued the luxury car maker's expertise
in terms of automotive engineering, embedded system and technology
tip, to see if it could benefit their construction project
of an Apple Car.

However, according to a recent Bloomberg report,Apple would have stopped
to work on its electric car project
or "Project Titan",
and redirected its efforts towards the development of adriving system
autonomous
.

This change of direction is probably one of the reasons which
motivated Apple not to follow through on talks with McLaren for a
possible buyout.

Bob Mansfield, currently in charge of the Apple Car project, would have given
engineers until fall 2017 to produce results regarding the
autonomous driving, before deciding the next course of action.
