Apple: this former employee allegedly transmitted confidential information to the press

A few weeks ago, Apple launched proceedings against one of its former employees, Simon Lancaster, who allegedly took advantage of his position in the company to steal "sensitive confidential information» from the Cupertino company. He then allegedly transmitted them to a journalist who published them in articles presented in the form of rumor.

The apple brand then stated:

Additionally, examination of the devices Apple provided to Lancaster for his work at the company shows that Lancaster and his correspondent coordinated to steal specific documents and product information from Apple. On numerous occasions, the correspondent had asked Lancaster for specific documents and information about Apple's trade secrets. On several occasions, Lancaster then sent the correspondent some of the requested confidential documents using devices owned by Apple. On other occasions, Lancaster met with the caller in person to provide requested confidential Apple information.

Other employees have already been accused in the past

The person concerned defended himself this week in a Californian court. He admits to having communicated with a journalist covering technology news and Apple products. He also discussed some workplace issues with him, issues he considers of public concern, such as an alleged concern about corruption within the supply chain.

However, he denies having downloaded confidential information on the day he left the company following his resignation on November 1, 2019. His connection to the Cupertino company's internal system would correspond to the sending of goodbye emails to his former colleagues.

On the other hand, he admits to having suggested to the journalist that he write an article on his departure from Apple and to having continued to communicate with the latter on Apple products after announcing his resignation.

Justice will now have to give its verdict on this dispute. In the past, other Apple employees have already been accused of theft of strategic data. So, in 2018,Xiaolang Zhangwas suspected of having stolen information about the Apple Car project.
