Apple Music: 3 key changes in the new update for Windows

  • Apple Music updates on Windows
  • The platform now supports keyboard shortcuts and displays song lyrics
  • Many bugs have also been fixed, but others still remain

Apple Music has just been updated on Windows. The app, as we recall, now allows access to the catalog of the eponymous streaming service on computers powered by the Redmond operating system but in the form of early access. Understand that this is more or less a versionbeta, which also bears the name “preview” for now. Therefore, as the developer explains in black and white, it is possible here “that not all features behave as expected“. To the wise.

In general, Apple has a habit of sharing release notes when some of its flagship platforms are improved, especially on iPhone. This is a list including the functionalities added for the occasion, the resolutions of technical problems made at the same time or the security vulnerabilities corrected. But for Windows, the publisher does not communicateno release notes. Fortunately, we were still able to find some choice changes made with the new Apple Music update. A look back at the three most notable.

1 – Support for keyboard shortcuts is coming

For starters, the latest version of Apple Music for Windows is now compatible with Windows keyboard shortcuts. This should make it easier to manage the different options without a mouse at their disposal, or for those who prefer to use the keys rather than the touchpad. We know that the latter, with prolonged use, can cause severe pain in the wrist.

With this, it turns out that Apple Music for Windows is alsocompatible with computer media control keyswho are equipped with it. These can however change depending on the model, but they are often the buttons for volume, to pause or to skip a track by moving to the next.

Be careful, however, because according to feedback from one of the users of the new app, it seems that these same media keys are notnot functional if Apple Music is minimizedin the taskbar. Perhaps this is another bug to fix, no doubt.

2 – We can now read the lyrics of the songs

The second most important addition in our opinion concerns song lyrics, which are finally displayed on demand. Integration is certainly notnot as efficient as that offered with the web versionfrom Apple Music, but already takes into account hundreds of titles. However, it is not yet possible to rotate the text in full screen, or even to animate it as is the case from a browser: everything is static.

Many other platforms also offer lyrics reading, includingSpotifywith its Mac client, with a step-by-step display depending on the progress of the track. So all we have to do is cross our fingers that Apple takes inspiration.

3 – Many bugs are finally resolved

Finally, testers of the new version of Apple Music on Windows have also noticed that serious technical problems have been corrected for the occasion. Among these, we can notably cite thetracks that skipped after fourteen or fifteen secondsplayback when “lossless audio” was activated. The only downside, and not the least: not all Internet users seem to have been eligible for the patch to date. We can bet that the deployment is gradual, even if it is still impossible to be certain.

In the same way, theincident that selected a title at randomwhen the user was simply trying to skip to the next song in an album is now a thing of the past.
