A disastrous third trimester
According to a recent report from Canalys, global sales of smartphones have decreased by9 %in comparison with last year. These statistics, which were published in October 2022, are based on the quarter from July to September. The results are clear: it isworst third trimesterthat the mobile market has seen since 2014!
This significant decline obviously raises the question: what factors could justify this decline? We have noticed, among other things, that since the pandemic, people have been renewing their electronic devices less often, for example. The trend is in fact to keep your smartphone longer than before.
iPhone 14 Pro, the savior of the market?
However, this poor health of the mobile market does not seem to affect Apple. If Samsung remains number one in the ranking (22% market share), the best progression from one year to the next for this third quarter is granted to Apple! In fact, the Californian firm is inincrease of 3%: it reached 18% market share over the period, compared to 15% in 2021 at the same time. Difficult to explain this rise, the source simply does not explain it as a form of resilience of demand for iPhone in market fluctuations.

It remains to be seen whether the latest iPhones will allow Apple to maintain this dynamic. According to some reports, the Pro version of the new iPhone should help the brand keep its head above water.
On the other hand, the firm would have more difficulty selling the non-Pro base models. Some suppliers of iPhone 14 and 14 Plus parts could even have to reduce their production by 40%… This does not bode well for this duo, which nevertheless displays the most affordable prices of the new iPhone range.
