This is an ambitious objective that extends over the next ten years. Apple has just unveiled its plan to become carbon neutral across all of its activities by 2030. This means that it is targeting net zero CO2 emissions for its supply and production chain, but also during the cycle life of the products.
The objective of 100% renewable energy is maintained
The revealed roadmap allows us to understand how the company intends to proceed. For now, the company is already carbon neutral for its commercial activities. However, there is still much to do, particularly at the productive level. As our colleagues atParis Match, the company wants to reduce its emissions by 75%, the remaining 25% would be obtained via carbon capture solutions.
Numerous investments and innovations should support this effort. Apple plans in particular to spend $100 million in its green fund which is used to support the energy transition of its Chinese subcontractors. The company also boasts the success of its energy efficiency program which includes 92 of its suppliers in 2019 and which it intends to perpetuate.
In terms of renewable energies, the Tech giant also wants to work harder. Apple will remain 100% renewable energy for its operations and will carry out new projects to do so. The objective is to direct its supply chain towards clean energy. The company also promises innovations in the materials used, notably the use of carbon-free aluminum.
Finally, Apple wants to invest in forests and various nature-based solutions around the world with the goal of removing carbon from the atmosphere. As a reminder, the apple brand has already been distinguished in the past for its sustainable development initiatives by receivingthe Ceres Prize.
