Apple Watch: a Tinder couple saved at the last minute from a fatal accident

Introduced with the Apple Watch Series 4 last year, in recent months we have seen numerous cases of lives saved by the fall detection functionality, which is also now present on the Apple Watch Series 5.

Here is a new story about a hiker (James Prudenciano) and his Tinder date (Paige Paruso), who went hiking in the mountains of a nature park located in New Jersey in the United States.

The young couple were hiking in Hartshorne Woods Country Park, when it started to get dark, they started down what they thought was a small slope, before realizing too late that it was 'a cliff with a river below.

They both fell into the river, James broke his back in three places on rocks in the river, while Paige was more “lucky”, and was not seriously injured.

James, who was immobilized and screaming in pain, thought he was going to die, fortunately he was wearing his Apple Watch Series 4, which detected the fall and automatically called for help.

The hiker (James Prudenciano) is only 28 years old, and normally at this age fall detection is disabled by default. In fact, Apple has chosen to only activate fall detection for those who are over 65 years old. In practice, by default this is therefore deactivated unless you have indicated your age on the Apple Watch or in the Health app, and you are aged 65 or over.

But James' manual activation of this feature literally saved his life. We show youin this tutorial, how to activate it whatever your age.
