Batterygate (iPhone 6): a refund, but not in France

Remember: not long ago,France, Italy and the United States ordered Apple to pay nearly two billion dollars in finesfor having deployed updates (to iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2) slowing down certain iPhones and in particular their battery. The crime ofplanned obsolescence-in the judicial sense of the term- does not, however, seem to have been retained during the various judgments.

Only downside: for consumers… Still nothing. Indeed, until now, apart from a few programs to change the defective component proposed in certain countries having imposed it on the Apple brand, it was difficult toobtain compensation. But across the Atlantic, solutions are being organized.

Not enough

Aclass-actionthus proposes tofill out a form at this address to try to receive twenty-five dollars in compensation. The only downside: only residents of Uncle Sam are affected by the operation. In France, there is still no initiative of this type and we do not know what the funds collected by the state will be used for following its sanction against Apple.

The alternative is therefore, for the moment, always to go to the Apple Store and cross your fingers to be eligible for a free battery replacement. Perhaps we will also see an improvement on the side ofiOS 14with iPhone 6s and later models affected by the same problem?
