On Mac, Face ID and automatic sleep coming soon?

A few months ago, a new patent was made public by the US Patent and Trademark Office. This one wants to protect a technology ofFace ID for the Mac. It would be logical to imagine such unlocking technology appearing on Apple computers. Face ID, initially launched on iPhone, has indeed made its way to then land on the iPad Pro. In this continuity, it should certainly appear on Mac, and in particular MacBook, especially since the latter are already equipped with Touch ID.

And a new patent published recently and credited to the Californian firm supports this hypothesis of Face ID coming to Mac. The technical paper describes a technology underpinned by the Mac's front camera, making it possible to analyze a person's face, but not only that.

Automated monitoring

In short, using presence sensors in particular, the Mac would, according to the patent, be able to detect a person then analyze their face, to unlock the Mac and wake it up. All this would be done automatically and quickly, like what we see with Face ID on iPhone.

But when the user leaves their workstation and their Mac, the machine would also detect it and then automatically go to sleep, in addition to locking itself to prevent anyone from using it without their consent.

This is just a patent describing the technology. There is therefore nothing to indicate that the Californian firm is indeed including such a functionality on future machines. Despite everything, this proves that it is working on the subject, with a view to improving the use of its Macs, to make them more secure, but also more ergonomic.

It is true that a function of waking up and unlocking the Mac simply by sitting in front of it seems extremely practical.
