As with every new smartphone available on the market, the specialists from the iFixit site have taken out their gloves and their tools to carry out a proper disassembly of the newly released device. The iPhone 11 Pro has not escaped this. The open component operation then made it possible to realize several points concerning Apple's new terminals.
More room for the battery
Overall, both models 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max include a larger battery than the iPhone XS and XS Max. To achieve this, Apple took advantage of the absence of 3D Touch on the latest iPhones. 3D Touch requires the integration of an additional layer on the OLED panel, which has the effect of making the screen larger. Since the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max do not have 3D Touch, their screen is thinner than that of their predecessors.
Otherwise, the 2019 devices are slightly thicker than those of 2017, see in particularour iPhone XS vs iPhone 11 Pro comparison to convince yourself:
- Dimensions of the case: 143,6 x 70,9 x 7,7 mm pour l’iPhone XS et 157,5 x 77,4 x 7,7 mm pour l’iPhone XS Max / 144 x 71,4 x 8,1 mm pour l’iPhone 11 Pro et 158 x 77,8 x 8,1 mm pour l’iPhone 11 Pro Max
Finally, note that even if the batteries of the new iPhone 11 Pro are still in L format, they are now only made up of a single block, compared to 2 for the batteries of the iPhone XS and XS.
All this allows larger batteries to gain mAh. For example, the iPhone 11 Pro Max has a 3,969 mAh battery, while the iPhone XS Max battery only contained 3,179. This still corresponds to a 25% increase from one generation to the next. 'other.
An unidentified connector
Otherwise, between the A13 Bionic chip, motherboard with new design and imposing photo module, iFixit specialists have made an intriguing discovery. The battery of the new iPhones has two connectors, including a new one, absent from the 2018 iPhones.

Its presence could suggest the integration of a reverse wireless charging functionality. But according to iFixit, we should instead rely on a new battery optimization system corresponding to this additional connection between battery and motherboard.
In the end, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max obtain a repairability score of 6/10, the same as the iPhone XS and Xs Max.
