This difference between the iPhone SE 4 and the iPhone 15 is unknown to the general public

  • BOE Electronics, ousted from producing screens for iPhone 15, could still design those for the fourth generation iPhone SE
  • The panels would display a diagonal of 6.1 inches
  • The fourth generation iPhone SE is expected in 2024

Not long ago, we learned thatBOE Electronicsprobably lost a contract worth several hundred million dollars with Apple. The subcontractor would indeed have failed to correctly design the screens of thefuture iPhone 15on time. But there is another mobile designed by Cupertino that could allow the company to survive despite everything. You will have guessed it from reading the title of this article: it is the iPhone SE, the fourth generation of which is expected next year with perhaps for the first time a screen of6.1 inches.

According to information from the Korean magazineThe Elecshared at the end of last week, BOE Electronics would therefore be responsible for manufacturing the panel for the fourth generation iPhone SE. However, we do not yet know exactly how many units for the moment, but the device is expected to be sold throughout the world for around twenty million orders in total. Its display couldlook more or less like that of the late iPhone XR, with an imposing notch at the top. Face ID could be included, again for the first time in this range which aims to be Apple's most affordable.

The value proposition of the year?

Today, with its small 4.7 inch panel and its relatively high price, the third generation iPhone SEstill struggles to convince the tightest budgets who sometimes have to turn to Android for better quality/price ratios.

But by finally moving to a larger screen, whose diagonal would be of the order of those of current high-end cell phones, then Apple could kill two birds with one stone. The manufacturer could indeed crush the competition head-on with a proprietary chip and biometric unlocking, all powered by iOS and with success.potentially grabbing new market share from Xiaomi or Samsung.

Supposed datasheet

If we look at Apple's habits for the iPhone SE range, we can assume that the 2024 model will be equipped with a processor similar to that of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, i.e. theA15 Bionic chipwhich we also find under the hood of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

On the connectivity side, given that the transition to USB-C is still uncertain even on iPhone 15, it is rather Lightning which would be retained on the fourth generation iPhone SE. As for the camera, we would still have to settle for a single sensor on the back, but wide-angle and with a probable definition of twelve megapixels.
