In Italy, Apple and Amazon are under antitrust investigation

The affair caused a stir two months ago. The Autorità Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato (AGCM) had in fact ordered Apple to paya record fineof 10 million euros. The reason is the lack of communication during the changes made to iOS 10.2.1 and 11.2 which considerably slowed down iPhones, while making their batteries defective.

The US Congress is also investigating suspicions of harm to competition

A few months later, the Italian competition watchdog once again has the Cupertino company in its sights. Apple and Amazon have in fact entered into an agreement aimed at preventing the sale of Apple and Beats devices by third-party resellers, thereby preventing them from reducing prices.

Ina press release, the AGCM was more precise: “This investigation aims to verify whether Apple and Amazon have put in place an agreement restricting competition.” The authority will therefore check “whether they prohibit the sale of Apple and Beats brand products by electronic product retailers not participating in the official Apple program.»

If this were the case, the two Tech giants would violate European rules and could thus expose themselves to sanctions. Across the Atlantic, the two companies are also in the spotlight, again for suspicions of infringement of competition rules. Jeff Bezos and Tim Cook should alsocome and testifyon this subject before the American Congress next week.
