Does the Galaxy S21 Ultra have a better camera than the iPhone 12 Pro Max?

The question of camera quality has been at the center of numerous debates for several years. It is therefore logical to comecompare the iPhone 12 Pro Max to its direct competitor on Android, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, which acts as a new challenger to the iPhone 12 camera.

The Korean manufacturer's phone has just arrived on the market a few weeks ago, and presents real photo quality. With lenses in addition to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, Samsung's phone has a clear advantage over zoom. But that's not all, far from it.

The site specialized around the Apple MacRumors has therefore carried out a most complete comparison, going through, one by one, all the possible photo modes (portrait, wide angle, night mode, etc.) to have the best possible rendering of the capabilities of the two phones. The result is right here: the photos rated with an A were taken with the Apple phone, those with a B therefore come from the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, both have not been retouched.

There are relatively few differences between the two phones in their portrait mode, the most successful according to Macrumors for each device. On the other hand, when it comes to night mode (or even below) Apple seems to be ahead of the game, with better color management. Samsung's objectives are not to be blamed, however, the problem indeed comes from the software. The latter tends to add heat to the images, which gives it a slightly orange tint which is not present in reality.

On the contrary,l’iPhoneit tends more towards a cold blue-green which, too, does not exist. The perfect photo is therefore somewhere in between, but leans more towards the Apple side than the Korean phone.
