- Google Maps offers immersive three-dimensional modeling for certain monuments
- Short journeys are also easier to follow now
- On iOS, the deployment of these new features is gradual: you will sometimes have to wait to be entitled to them
Immersive views
Google Maps is starting to roll out some highly anticipated changes, including the arrival of “immersive views” in several new locations. These three-dimensional models of various of the most popular monuments are reminiscent of therecent similar improvement of Apple Plans in Paris, but here the addresses concerned are different.
Cities now supported are Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice. To test the “immersive view”, choose a place of interest in one of these cities, such as the RDS Main Arena in the Irish capital. In the window that appears, then touch the image with the caption “Immersive View“, then let yourself be guided.
The immersive views were announced at Google I/O last May. It was also during this event that we were able to discover thePixel Fold, premier smartphone pliant de Mountain View.
More discreet journeys
With this, Google Maps now also offers to model your journey in a simpler way on the map of the home screen, without opening the mode dedicated to full-screen routes. A rather practical solution for short distances, but which of course remains optional. To see more clearly, here is what this change looks like on Android:

This new, lighter mode of GPS will be deployed to all users (iOS included)by the end of June. It is also possible that the directions to get to the desired destination are instead available on the locked screen of iPhones, via the functionalityLive Activities.
THELive Activitiesare also available on iPadrecentlyand in particular already allow you to follow the score of a match in progress, the status of an Uber Eats order or even the position of your VTC driver in real time.
