After denouncing sexism at Apple, then fired, she counterattacks

  • In August 2021, an Apple engineer spoke about working conditions at Apple
  • The young woman denounced cases of harassment and sexism at the firm
  • She was later fired

Perhaps you will remember,in August 2021, a news item involving Apple went around the web. This concerned Ashley Gjovik, a former engineer from Cupertino.

At the time, the latter had mentioned in a publication X the working conditions within the company. She notably denounced the alleged presence of harassment and sexism against women within the group.

The engineer then, with certain colleagues, initiated a movement similar to #MeeTo which aimed to bring victims of abuse at Apple out of silence. The initiative prompted more than 200 people to testifyconcerning alleged abusive working conditions at the Apple firm.

It is however good to note that of all the testimonies, only around fifteen come from employees or ex-employees working directly at Apple, the rest concern subcontractors. These figures should be compared with the 12,000 employees operating at the Apple Park in Cupertino.

Lightning layoff

Following this X post and the movement she initiated, the whistleblowerwas quickly dismissed by the Apple firm. She was first placed on administrative leave, then wasdismissed immediately, in September 2021. The pretext given by Apple is that it would have disclosed confidential information related to the company.

A fierce struggle

Over the past two years, Ashley Gjovik has waged a relentless battle against Apple, accusing the firm of mistreating her following her comments on Twitter. She filed a complaint against the company andobtained certain successes concerning certain charges, but she has not yet had a final decision regarding one of the main ones: the mistreatment allegedly inflicted on her by the company.

Small problem for the young woman, the charges are about to be prescribed, unless she files a new complaint against Apple. And that's what the young woman decided to do, but this time she seems much better armed than last time. The rest promises to be juicy regarding this affair.

Besides, maybe Ashley Gjovik should seek help from Elon Musk.He who last month offered to finance the legal costs of people who believe they are victims of unfair dismissaldue to a speech or a reaction on their social network.

While waiting for news regarding this matter,See you this evening for the Apple Keynote!
