Apple ready to invest in LG to ensure the supply of Face ID sensors for the 2018 iPhone X and iPad Pro?

According to the South Korean site
The
Investor
, Apple could make a significant investment in one
of its major subcontractors for the iPhone
Sharp, the assembly of essential components for proper functioning
face recognition. It would be a question of aenvelope of
almost a billion dollars
, which could benefit the subcontractor
via the construction of new facilities to increase the
production rate of 3D sensors and other modulesunderlying the
Face ID
. The idea is obviously to have sufficient stock in
2018, with enough to providepotential new iPhones and even
iPad
, all equipped withFace ID:

According to the source, these are precisely820.9 million
dollars
that Apple would consider investing in LG Innotek. This
strategy will follow an investment of the same type of 390 million
dollars,
detailed here
and carried out last year with Finisar in the same
optics: strengthening the component suppliers underlying the Face
ID.

While Finisar takes care of an important laser component for Face ID
and the Truedepth camera of the iPhone
sensor modules for Face ID as well.

However, rumors and specialist analysts predict a year 2018 with
new iPhones equipped, for all models, from
Face IDand therefore face recognition. An iPhone
More would notably be there next September. In what concert
the iPad, a model is also expected with Face ID, it would be a
new iteration ofthe iPad Pro.

With all this, the demand for components for Face ID would be
massive, much higher than for the iPhone
this is currently the case. This is why Apple must
strengthen its suppliers, hence this new investment
potential with LG Innotek.
