Since the release of Samsung's new phones at the beginning of the month, the smartphone world has its eyes on comparisons of all kinds. If the benchmarks have already given Apple an advantage in terms of powerFaced with the very latest S22 Ultra, which nevertheless has a Snapdragon 8 gen 1 chip, the quality of a phone does not come down to its power.
It is indeed necessary to take into account other factors in this analysis, and the quality of the battery is one of them. In order to decide between the best iPhone available to date (the 13 Pro Max) and the new Samsung S22 Ultra, YouTuber Arun Maini decided to do a very simple comparison.
A life-size test to pit Apple against Samsung
He thus lined up the phones, one next to the other (iPhone 13 Pro Max, Samsung S22 Ultra, Samsung S21 Ultra, Google Pixel 6 Pro and Xiaomi 12 Pro). The YouTuber took care to remove the automatic backlight from the phones, he also removed the SIM card and did several operations on the different smartphones in order to exhaust their battery as quickly as possible.
Quickly during his test, Arun Maini realizes that the iPhone 13 Pro Max which nevertheless “only” benefits from a 4352 mAh battery is more energy efficient than its Korean competitor, which nevertheless has on its side a larger cell, 5000 mAh.
Samsung disappoints despite big promises
During the presentation of its latest generation of smartphones, Samsung announced that it had made significant efforts on the battery and autonomy of its products. But ultimately, this test seems to prove the arguments put forward by the Korean firm wrong, which achieved worse results with its S22 Ultra than with last year's S21 Ultra.
Finally Arun Maini notes that the iPhone 13 Pro Max will have lasted 10 hours and 27 minutes, the S22 Ultra will have lasted 8 hours and 8 minutes, or 7 less than the S21 Ultra. As for the Google and Xiaomi phones, they will have resisted for 7 hours 34 minutes for the Chinese product, and 7 hours 6 minutes for the Google phone, the worst performing product in this test.
Apple far ahead
If the methodology used by Arun Maini can be debated, the differences noted between the phones are too great to be linked to the experience itself, and they clearly demonstrate the capacity of Apple, which with a battery smaller than its competitors, creates a phone with record autonomy.
