Never two without three: the App Store welcomes a new rival!

This is big news, but who could havelittle impact on users' daily lives. Mobivention has just announced the launch of its own app library, in other words aalternatives to the App Storeto download third-party services without going through the latter. The update to iOS 17.4 will finally allow developers to offer this type of platform, whereas Apple prevented it until now. It is now possible to download the update in question. However, this is only available in beta version, for the moment. However, such an edition may contain bugs. Moreover, the editor of the day specifies that its new product is not yet available. This will be the case when the final version of iOS 17.4 is rolled out to the general public.

We do not yet know precisely what plans to offerMobivention, with this new service. But the company, which markets development services for publishers, could allow them to offer integrated purchasing systems with a lower commission than that of the App Store. Let us remember that in general, the Cupertino application store takes no less than 30% from each transaction of this type…

An honorable promise for developers

Concretely, Mobivention explains in black and white that it wants to offer an alternative, simple and safe way to “distribute[s]” apps on iOS. The B2B (business services) and B2C (for individuals) sectors would be in the company's sights. More precisely, the publication of updates would be particularly simplifiedcompared to the drastic rules of use of the App Store. And this is what will perhaps prove to be the best differentiating element of our new product of the day. Indeed, just last year we reported that developerspull out their hairto try to get back into Apple's good graces without their changes being refused by the Cupertino giant.

Unsurprisingly, Mobivention also wants to offer athird-party payment method. It will then, inevitably, be a question of offering a discounted rate compared to that of the App Store when charging a possible commission. However, many publishers have already decided to override Apple's limitations in this area. This is for example the case of the streaming app Spotify, Netflix for series and films on demand or even the famous studio Epic Games – owner of Fortnite. Remember: the lawsuit between the latter and Cupertino had continued to make headlines in recent semesters.

Apple is in the loop!

Even more surprising: Mobivention here assures that it hascollaborated “closely]” with Appleto design its alternative to the App Store. This is how it is within the European headquarters of the apple firm, atCork(Ireland), that the solution would have been developed. As a reminder, it is on site that Tim Cook employs hundreds of people. A strategy that is, however, relatively criticized by certain observers, since it is obviously marked by tax optimization. On the island, the constraints are much more flexible than French or Belgian taxation, for example.

Mobivention is not the only company that has decided to offer an alternative to the App Store for iOS services. Indeed, very recently, we also reported on a relatively similar solution but this time from MacPaw. The Ukrainian developer is behind the Mac cleaning software Clean My MacSetappa simple way to subscribe to a library of apps for around 10 euros per month. No single purchase like on the App Store, therefore.

  • Mobivention will soon unveil an alternative to the Apple App Store
  • This third-party app store will offer an alternative payment system
  • Apple participated in the development of the solution, in its Irish premises
