Jony Ive has left Apple for good

It was last June, that we learned of the decisionby Jony Ive, to leave his position as head of Apple product design, in order to launch his own design company, called LoveFrom Jony. The designer Marc Newson, also an Apple employee for several years, joined him in this project.

His departure was to be effective towards the end of the year, and it is now a reality. Apple just removed Jony Ive's profile fromthe official page, which lists Apple's top executives.

Apple and Jony Ive will not completely cut ties, however, because the two will collaborate from time to time, moreover Apple will remain one of the priority clients of Jony Ive's new design studio.

This is a major event in the history of the Californian company, as the influence of the designer has been significant on the various products marked with the apple over the last 30 years.

During his long career within the Cupertino company, he signed the design of various flagship products. Here are some of its notable achievements: the first iPod released in 2001, the first Mac mini released in 2005, but also the iPhone released in 2007, the MacBook Air released in 2008, the iPad released in 2010 and even the Apple Watch, released in 2014.

Jeff Williams, Apple's chief operating officer (COO), now replaces Jony Ive in this very important position within the Apple firm, while managing Apple's supply chain. He also manages Apple's hardware development and product design division.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, we learned that Jeff Williams has always been interested in product design, in fact the Apple website mentions that he worked with the design team for the development of the Apple Watch.

It is more precisely to him that we owe the new direction taken by the Apple Watch, from a fashion accessory in the early days of the watch, to now an object for sports and health monitoring, which seems to work better.
