AI-generated songs are taking over Apple Music

Since the beginning of the year, the trend of type language modelsChatGPTsweeps across the entire planet. No sector of activity is immune, and certainly not the world of music where certain AI tools promise to generate a new songin just a few seconds.

But there is a catch. The Universal Music group has in fact noted that some of these new titles violated the copyright of its artists. According to theFinancial Timeswho had access to the email sent by the label toApple Musicand to Spotify, the company explains:

We have learned that some artificial intelligence systems may have been trained on copyrighted content without obtaining the necessary permissions from, or compensating, the rights holders who own or produce the content. We will not hesitate to take measures to protect our rights and those of our artists.

A hot issue for platforms

Some of these AIs also promise their users to create songs inspired by the work of world singing stars. Under these conditions, borrowing a little too far is entirely possible.

In fact, several Tech giants have already created models of this type, such as Google with MusicLM. For now, this model is on hiatus because it was found to incorporate existing music in 1% of the songs created. A level sufficient to make many unhappy. For its part, OpenAI presented Jukebox, a high-performance AI that the company continues to perfect.

There is no doubt that this file will be followed very closely by Apple Music and Spotify who are keen to maintain good relations with artists and their labels. For the moment, however, the apple brand has not chosen to comment on this subject.
