Staingate refers to the problem of screen stains appearing among many MacBook and MacBook Pro users. These white streaks would be linked to a problem with the anti-reflective coating of the laptop panel. MacBook and MacBook Pro models with Retina display would be particularly affected.
Moreover, the problem is known to the Californian firm, since the latter has been offering a screen repair program for several years now for Macs affected by this problem of stains. And in this regard, you should know that Tim Cook's company has just announced to Apple Stores and other authorized repairers an extension of this program.
This now covers, and for the coming months, the following machines:
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, early 2015)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2015)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016)
- MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017)
- MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
- MacBook (12-inch, early 2015)
- MacBook (12-inch, early 2016)
- MacBook (12-inch, early 2017)
We note that the MacBook Pros from 2013 and 2014, which until then were included in the list, are no longer present. They can therefore no longer benefit from this free repair program. In addition, as our colleagues at MacRumors point out to us, no other model has been added to the lot. No MacBook or MacBook Pro from 2018 or even 2019 there, which bodes well for owners of these recent machines.
Those who own one of the models listed above suffering from screen stains can take their machine to an Apple Store or authorized reseller to have it repaired free of charge.
Remember that to find out the model information of your Mac computer, simply click on the apple at the top left, then choose “About this Mac”. There is then displayed, under the version of the OS used, the model of the Mac, generally with the screen size and the year of release.
