In its (almost eternal) quest for an iPhone without the slightest port, Apple seems to be getting closer and closer to its goal. Thanks to the MagSafe technology reintroduced by Apple on its products with the iPhone 12, the Cupertino company has found an “in-house” solution to replace charging by Lightning cable, a first big step before seeing this port completely disappear from the 'iPhone.
Because at the moment it is very difficultto replace the Lightning. The latter can restore the phone when it no longer responds, an emergency solution, which alone makes Apple's cable still essential, 10 years after its release.
But yet on the Apple Park side, tempers seem to be tormented. On the one hand, Lightning was preferred to USB-C on the latest, the AirPods Max, without anyone really understanding this choice, and another branch of Apple's thinking heads are pushing them, to make Lightning a digital relic.
It is this idea that seems to be gaining ground little by little within Apple Park. Apple wants an iPhone without ports, and MagSafe therefore seems the ideal solution for wireless charging, even if Apple's technology still needs to be improved. Particularly with regard to the maximum charging power, currently stuck at 15W, largely insufficient for the ultra-fast charging area offered by Apple's competitors.
The USB-C solution less and less likely
While it was once announced as the heir to Lightning, USB-C should ultimately not see the light of day on the iPhones of the future, despite the incessant requests of certain Internet users to the Cupertino company. If even the European Union asked Apple during this year 2020 to change its portLightningfor a more universal USB-C type solution, this change should never take place.
This could even be an explanation for the accelerated development in recent months on wireless charging and MagSafe.Demands for European homogenizationin terms of charging ports from major smartphone manufacturers would not have pleased Apple, the latter now doing everything possible to eliminate the charging port from its phone in the future.
