While 5G has been available in several countries since this year, such as the United States, but not everywhere, only in certain densely populated cities, it will not arrive in France before 2020.
France is behind in the deployment of 5G on French territory, with operators planning to deploy it from 2020, but we do not yet know when in 2020. Stéphane Richard, the big boss of Orange, has just announce the 5G launch period.
Orange plans to commercially launch 5G in spring 2020, i.e. during the first half of next year. This will probably only be available initially in a limited number of large French cities, including Paris.
To benefit from it, you must use a 5G compatible smartphone, for example the Galaxy S10 or the Note 10 from Samsung, or the Mi Mix 3 5G from Xiaomi. A 5G compatible iPhone would not be available before the 2020 models.
According to Stéphane Richard, if France is behind in the deployment of 5G compared to other countries, it is because of the allocation of 3.5 GHz frequencies by the government, which will take place in several weeks.
