Nearly 150 dangerous apps on iOS, to be deleted immediately

App Danger is the name of a project initiated by Brian Levine, computer scientist and concerned father of a 14-year-old girl, who is the reason why he decided to start this project.

Few solutions to fight against sexual predators and reassure parents

Being a parent in our time is a major challenge, children are connected earlier and earlier andspend more and more time in front of screens.

In this context, it is normal as a parent to worry about the risks linked to the Internet and to do the best to guarantee the safety of your offspring. This is what Brian Levine tried to do.

Initially, the computer scientist was content to check the opinions left by Internet users concerning the applications that his daughter wanted to install. Faced with these time-consuming checks and after observing a lack of concrete solutions aimed at guaranteeing the safety of younger generations on the web, Brian took the initiative to create his own tool.

In fact, over the last two years, the latter has developed an algorithm based on artificial intelligence capable of detecting potentially risky applications for children.

How was artificial intelligence able to detect these potentially dangerous applications?

To achieve this feat, the algorithm automatically analyzes the reviews of hundreds of applications available on online stores, such as the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

The algorithm will then detect user reviews mentioning issues related to sexual predators or even cases of sextortion, then will list these reviews and classify them.

For those who are not familiar with the term sextortion, it refers, for example, to demanding money from a person under penalty of distributing naked images of them.

The data retrieved by the program was then distributed in the form of a list on the website ofApp Danger. If you wish, you can consult this list, which currently lists 182 potentially harmful applications, including 146 on the App Store.

Apple reacts and deletes some

The App Danger project did not go unnoticed as Apple quickly reacted and removed 10 of the applications on its store list.

A spokesperson says the app review team works 24/7 to review all new apps and updates to ensure they meet requirements.standardsd’Apple.
