If the Journal app presented at the same time as iOS 17 hasfinally appears on iPhone this week, this is still not the case for AirPlay on hotel room TVs. This new feature was announced during theWorldwide Developer Conference, an event organized each year by Apple and dedicated, as its name suggests, to app creators. The publisher then specified that it would be necessary to wait until “later” in the year, the show having taken place in August. But it is clear that no deployment announcement has been published since…
And for good reason: Apple has just updated the iOS 17 presentation page in English, which now specifies that you will have to wait until an update planned for2024to enjoy AirPlay at the hotel. However, we noticed that the mention in question is not displayed on the version of the same page in the language of Molière. However, it is a safe bet that this is a simple delay. This should therefore be modified shortly, because it is very rare to see the Apple firm offering new products first to the French.
A first partner in the loop
The international hotel group IHG Hotels & Resorts will be one of the first to collaborate with Apple to make its televisions connected in this way. The company notably owns hotelsInterContinental,Crowne PlazaetHoliday Inn, with a total of more than 700,000 rooms to its credit.
How does AirPlay work in hotel rooms?
The principle of AirPlay in hotel rooms consists of allowing everyone to connect to establishment televisions, wirelessly, in order to broadcast the content of their choice, via the eponymous functionality of iPhones or Macs ( among others). Google already offers the same thing withChromecast, on the Android side.
We have not yet been able to find out whether AirPlay in hotel rooms will also be compatible with connected speakers. But it's also the process that allows, for example, playing music on a HomePod from an iPad. Addresses equipped with AirPlay speakers, however, remain relatively limited, and above all confined tofour or five stars.
To connect to a TV in a hotel room via AirPlay, it would apparently be enough to scan a QR code that appears on the big screen from the camera of your iPhone or tablet running iPadOS. Then, all you have to do is select AirPlay as audio output, from theControl centerof the Apple device. Cupertino also explains that this technique also allows you to quickly connect to Wi-Fi, without having to type the WEP key manually.
