Harmony Healthcare IT studied the habits of smartphone users, focusing on the American region. We discover that 36% of them think they won't be able to cope if it means going without a cell phone for just twenty-four hours. Generation Z even spends more than six hours a day on their small screen, without taking into account of course the time spent on computer or television. In total,45% of all respondents would even consider themselves dependentto their cell phone. A worrying score, especially when we know that scientific research has already been able to demonstrate that social networks and other apps on our mobiles can increase the risk of depression or anxiety, in the event of intensive use.
Among the other statistics that we were able to consult, no less than 59% of respondents explained that they knowingly use their smartphone in the toilet. Again, it's quite risky. Indeed, asour colleagues atPresse-citron.netin a recent article, this greatly encourages the spread of germs on our tactile companion. We can never point it out enough, but our everyday electronic equipment is among the most carriers of bacteria: computer mice, switches and even telephones are among them. For comparison, a toilet seat is much cleaner for someone who cleans it regularly, at least more so than their iPhone case if the latter does not benefit from proper scrubbing as often. .

What are the apps most used by Americans?
Still according to the results of the same study, the most used app in America would be the one that allows you to sendmessages. The one of the same name available on iPhones is automatically installed by Apple, and offers end-to-end encryption, but only if you use the iMessage format. However, this was seriously criticized by a number of media, because it was not compatible with the RCS standard, which was adopted by the majority of other smartphone manufacturers. But the good news is that Tim Cook's company has justannouncean update finally resolving this major problem!
After messages, the second most used app across the Atlantic would beYouTube. Which makes sense, given that most rankings from research firms specializing in the mobile market confirm the same figure. This is particularly the case of data.ai or Sensor Tower. And the third, then? For Harmony Healthcare IT, it's actually Facebook. A social network that is losing momentum in the West, certainly, but which continues to grow in Asia, even among the youngest who still see it as an excellent way to stay in touch with their friends or with strangers.
A very relative panel…
However, in order to qualify these results at least a little, it is always good to take an interest in the population studied to achieve such results. Even more so when their publication does not hesitate to mention the case of the particularly distressing anticipation seriesBlack Mirror, in the very title of the content. So here are a few more details about it:
- date of completion: December 2023
- number of participants: 1,024 surveyed
- age: between eighteen and seventy-seven years old
- gender: 52% women, 45% men, 2% non-binary and 1% unspecified
- Study finds smartphone users feel addicted to their device
- The respondents are not in France
- The number of participants in the study is quite small; its results therefore remain to be considered with caution
