The world leader in musical streaming has just announced via a press release that the subscription price was going to increase soon in France. This change in the pricing of the service is due to the arrival of a new tax in France which particularly targets applications like Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer.
On the side of the executive, it is explained that this tax, which represents only a few cents per subscriber, will finance theNational Center for Music(CNM), the equivalent of the CNC but for the world of music. The levy will not be taken on all subscribers but on the overall turnover of the company.It will be 1.2% for the moment.
In an “open letter to her subscribers” Spotify explains that this new taxation, if it may seem ridiculously small is actually one more cost for the company that will have to donate“Two-thirds of each euro won in the beneficiaries and the French government.”

In this same letter,SpotifyEnsures that the arrival of this tax will even more complicate the work of the service in France. It will then be impossible to ensure the sustainability of Spotify on the territory. For the moment, the streaming service has been careful not to give the date and value of this increase in prices. Spotify ensures that subscribers will be informed“In the coming weeks” of price development.
"Clearly, all our French premium users will see their subscription increase, and will now pay the highest package within the European Union.
