Designer Parker Ortolani wanted to imagine what thenext edition of visionOS. For those who have never heard of it, know that this is the proprietary operating system developed by Apple to equip its mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro. The platform allows you to exchange SMS messages with the Messages app, which is also available on iPhone, or to watch series with the Apple TV+ catalog. Many other services also present on Mac are also available with the mount, such as Mail for the inbox or even Keynote for creating presentations as also offered by Microsoft PowerPoint.
In Parker Ortolani's concept, this is added to the possibility of completely personalizing the home screen. This is obviously already what we can do on iPhone with iOS 17. It would therefore be wise to also be able to create app folders or move their icons as you wish also on visionOS. Note also that an update has already been deployed for the “spatial” operating system. This arrived among users a little earlier during the month of February, but the new features are only minor.A very annoying bug has however been fixed for the occasion.
Judicious integration with other devices in the Apple ecosystem
Parker Ortolani also presents several fairly intelligent integrations that Apple could offer between its Vision Pro and its other connected objects. For example, you could continue playing a series started on Apple TV on your headset, simply by putting it on and then turning towards the screen which is already broadcasting the content. A functionality which is of course reminiscent of that of Continuity calledHandoff, and which already allows you not to cut the flow of a video when switching for example from a Mac to an iPad or from an Apple TV to an iPod touch.
It could be very practical to also decline this potential advantage on Mac. We thus know that it is possible to create virtual screens from visionOS, to work in multitasking mode without investing in real external monitors. But Mac display duplication is still too limited with the VR operating system. It would then be welcome to be able to simply look at your MacBook Pro through the Vision Pro screen, so that the macOS interface is displayed in VR and offers the possibility, in one or twopinchesonly, to extend the virtual display at will…

Thebouton Actionrevisited
To go further, Parker Ortolani also mentions the case of the famousbouton Actionpresent on the edge of the Vision Pro. The shortcut has the same name as the one installed on newiPhone 15 Pro et iPhone 15 Pro Max. On the other hand, unlike what is offered on the two mobiles, it is not possible to assign a customizable functionality.
Apple could therefore give us the possibility of doing so, by choosing for example to launch a Concentration mode or to start recording a voice note by simply pressing on it.
What release date for the second edition of visionOS?
visionOS was first revealed during theWorldwide Developer Conference, which occurred last June. Each year, it is generally during this month that the event is organized, dedicated as its name suggests to app creators. We generally discover all the new features of the latest versions of Apple's proprietary operating systems, such as macOS and iOS.
It therefore seems logical that visionOS 2 would also see the light of day during WWDC, the next edition of which could therefore be held in a little over three months. Be careful, however: this is the potential presentation date, but the availability date will probably not be the same. It is therefore likely that Apple will ask its users to wait untilSeptember 2024to access the final version. Until then, publishers will surely be able to test their services on visionOS 2 in beta.
