That the one who
has never complained about the snail's flow or the lack of network during a
long train journey dawns! For others, there may be a
hope.
Thus, as part of its digital strategy which will be unveiled in February,
the SNCF should launch a call for tenders to offer internet access in
trains: WiFi, 3G and/or 4G.
But don't take out your iPhone yet and feverishly search for the point
WiFi access of the TER 2310… Because this could take time and cost
cher :
Indeed, due to the high speed of trains, the cost of deployment
is particularly high. Even if WiFi is already present in TGVs
Thalys (free in 1st class, and for full-price 2nd tickets, paying
otherwise), a wider deployment could cost up to350 000 euros
par rame. There are 800 in France currently...
The call for tenders will therefore expect in return not only proposals
techniques but will also have to look at the economic model (advertising
like in train stations?).
We should therefore not see WiFi arriving on trains just yet.
continuation: it seems that we are talking about three years.
But we have to start one day, let's hope it's at most
quickly !
