Mario Kart is without any
arguably one of the most popular games in the world, but, owned by Nintendo
Obviously, we will never see it on machines other than the DS or the Wii, and
obviously never on Apple machines.
The solution is then to turn to Mario Kart “clones”. We
had seen several representatives of the genre on the App Storelisted in this
post on the lamentable Shrek Kart, without finding a real pearl. And
Sega has made available the popular Sega & Sonic All Stars Racing, directly
from the world of consoles and which interests us today. But is he the
Mario Kart Like that we were waiting for?
Full verdict in the following test:
Released in 2010 on consoles, Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing did not have
really convinced. And for good reason, despite this strong gathering
sympathetic of all these characters from Sega games, the game was flawed by its
relative wisdom and the lack of fun that he gave off compared to his
direct competitor Mario Kart. The bill being 60€ for a new game, there was
enough to get through. If its version on the App Store retains the same
qualities (roughly speaking the game is super nice) and the same flaws, we're talking about
here all the same of the best kart game for iOs platforms available
for… €2.39 at launch and increased to €3.99 since then. Something to give him
largely a second chance.
And we have to admit that Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing finds its
perfect place in the pocket on your iPhone or iPad and at this price. Very
nicely packaged (the menus are amazing), but quite empty graphically
once in the races, you just have to take it for what it is: a
simple game that can be played quickly in the subway or in your
lit, time to finish 2-3 races to continue the next day. To the
limit of casual-game therefore.
And considering it as such, Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing has it in
the belly: 10 characters, 15 circuits, a very complete online mode
(but which we were unable to test due to numerous connection problems
perhaps coming from us), quite a few options and a rather
neat.
The game responds to the finger and the eye, whatever the type of handling
chosen since we can opt for the inclination of the screen to turn
(calibrable with disconcerting ease) or the traditional buttons in
overlay on the screen.
The comparison with Mario Kart is unnecessary, you will get it
understood: Nintendo's production is more fun, more charismatic to
all levels, more beautiful, deeper, and almost incomparable to this day
as the recipe has been tested for 19 years (the Super Nintendo version dates from
1992!). But for its first foray into the genre, Sega ensures a very
friendly, correctly finished and a pleasure to have in the hollow
by hand on iPhone or iPad (the app is also universal!).
The pluses:
- A palliative to Mario Kart in your pocket or bag.
- The best kart game on the App Store.
- All these cult Sega characters, it’s great!
- The very complete online mode.
- Sega's first universal application.
- Not expensive for such a game.
Cons:
- The comparison to Mario Kart is merciless: less charisma, less precise
in driving, less beautiful, less fun, less fishing. - It's a "nice" game, that's all.
