The battle over the Nano Sim rages between Apple and Nokia

While ETSI (European
Telecommunications Standards Institute) must decide within days
come onthe adoption of the next SIM card standard, Apple,
Nokia and RIM are fighting to impose their model. The different
proposals were unveiled this Monday.

The objective of this new standard is toearn a little more
of space inside smartphones
to be able to use it for
increase the size of the battery for example.

As for the model proposed by Apple, it resembles the current micro
SIM deprived of its plastic borders. Butas we mentioned here, he is not
to the taste of other competitors:

Nokia in the lead, protests and asserts thatApple's proposal does not
does not comply with the specifications imposed by ETSI
. In fact, the
strong resemblance to the Micro Sim could allow a fool to insert
a Nano Sim in a slot provided for a Micro Sim which, ETSI
had specified, should not be possible.

What lies behind is less altruistic, becauseNokia and RIM,
fear above all having to use the drawer patented by Apple

while their respective proposal is inserted directly into the phone
without accessories. And who says patented drawer could mean payment of
apple royalties. Are you following me?

However, Apple has indicated that if its project is to become the standard, then
the patent would be free of rights. This was not enough to calm
Nokia which is surprised and claims not to be aware of a patent held by
Apple and that could be essential to this nano Sim. Furthermore,Nokia
claims that his project is the best and that it entails manufacturing costs
weaker.

The epilogue should take place this week and we should then know who
from Apple or Nokia will be able to boast of holding the standard of the next card
SIM.
