Contrary to
what might seem obvious, researchers from Georgia Tech have just
to focusan application allowing visually impaired people
to use the iPhone touch screen.
The application, called BrailleTouch, displays six keys on the screen of
l’iPhone :
Thanks to these six keys, the user will be able to form the letters of
the Braille alphabet. Once the letter is made, an audio confirmation
comes to assure the user.
Use is simple since you just need to turn the iPhone over to
position it with its back to you, keep it in landscape mode and that's it.
Currently functional on iPhone only, the researchers
plan to port the process to other devices.
It is easy to imagine the practical applications of such a process for
visually impaired. SMS and email would be easily within their reach.
Studies carried out with the application give excellent results:
up to 6 times faster than other solutions, the application bringing
users with a score of32 words per minute. For now,
the application is still in the draft stage and is therefore not available.
Not bad .
