Apple represents one in three sales in the video game market

As the trial entersApple and Epic Games opened yesterday, several pieces of information have come to provide details on the situation of the two companies. Particularly with regard to the Apple brand, and its position in the video game market. Because it should perhaps be remembered that this trial is that of Apple. Epic Games in fact accuses the Cupertino company of being in a “dominant position” and of abusing it. An idea that Apple vehemently contradicts, obviously.

According to information collected by Samik Chatterjee, the JP Morgan insider very close to the Apple brand, documents which were revealed during this trial indicate that Apple estimates its position on the video games market between 23 and 38% of sales. An argument which pleads in favor of the apple brand, the latter cannot be in a dominant position in a market that it does not even half control.

Apple's 30% commission is not abnormal according to Apple

If the question of video games is not the only area in which Apple would be in a dominant position according to Epic Games' lawyers, it is in any case the most contested point and Apple clearly defends its position. Regarding the other major debate which will animate this trial between the two brands, the Cupertino company has already announced thatits 30% feeon in-app purchases, the starting point of this affair, was a standard within the digital industry and which Apple had only followedthe “rules” pre-established by other companies.

Apple ended its plea by explaining that the company has significantly improved the living conditions of developers using their platform. The latter have seen their income increase tenfold in recent years.

Fortnite: Apple had only a minor impact on the game's figures

During this first day of an eventful trial, Apple had to explain itself specifically regardingthe game “Forntite” owned by Epic Games, but which was banned from the App Store last summer because of this 30% commission taken by Apple, which Epic Games refused to pay.

Apple thus explained that the share of revenue generated from the App Store for Fortnite actually represented only 7% of the game's turnover. The impact of Apple's commission was therefore minimal, contrary to what Epic Games said.

Finally, Apple concluded by explaining, figures in hand, that 95% of its users had already connected to Fortnite from another device, such as a game console for example.
