Here, we learned that for its range of headphones and earphones, Apple would have planned three new products in 2020: an update of the AirPods or AirPods Pro before June, the presentation of a high-end headset in June, and the arrival of new AirPods, possibly called AirPods X at the end of summer, beginning of fall.
A report also confirmed the releaseof an AirPods update from 2020without however specifying which models, Pro or AirPods 2, this refresh would concern.
MacRumors has just added its two cents to this story. According to the American site's sources, Apple has planned new AirPods for the month of May. These would take the design of the first generation AirPods Pro in in-ear format, but would not benot equipped with the active noise reduction of the latter.
They could well correspond to the previous reference of rumors on the subject, which anticipated the arrival in 2020 of AirPods Pro called “Lite”. However, it is difficult to say at the moment whether this new pair would constitute generation 3 of the AirPods or would sit in the range between the 2nd generation AirPods and the AirPods Pro.
We would rather bank on the second hypothesis, the in-ear format clearly not being appreciated by everyone.

In addition, note that the source speaks of a possible delay in the release of these new AirPods initially planned for May. Indeed, according to the suppliers contacted, it would not be possible for Apple to keep this release schedule. The firm should probablydelay their arrival until the second half of 2020. In the worst case, we would even have to count ona release in 2021.
