AirPods Pro: soon with Face ID cameras?

Summarized like this, Apple's idea may seem far-fetched. However, the Apple brand intends to add infrared cameras to its AirPods Pro. At least that’s what Ming-Chi Kuo has just assured. The financial analyst, very close to the Cupertino company, assures that these cameras should make it easier to use headphones withl’Apple Vision Pro, the brand's mixed reality headset.

The addition of these cameras should notably allow Apple to make spatial audio more precise. The functionality allows, as a reminder, to “localize” the sound according to its source of emission. Concretely, if you wear the Vision Pro and watch a film facing you, the sound will be different if you turn your head to the left or right. The objective of this feature is to reproduce the nuances of listening that you can already experience in real life with a soundbar under your television.

Cameras already well known to users

According to information from Ming-Chi Kuo, the addition of these new cameras would not be so complicated for Apple, the Apple brand already producing thousands of these small devices. They are in fact already used in iPhones, iPads and Macs equipped with Face ID functionality. Reusing these infrared cameras should allow Apple to reduce manufacturing costs and problems on the production line.

Still according to Kuo's information, ces AirPods Prowith cameras should arrive on the market in 2026. They will be built by Foxconn which seems to have won the contract from Apple. The Cupertino company, for its part, must now establish the selling price of this new device.

The addition of an infrared camera on the headphones risks increasing the selling price of these AirPods Pro. To get an idea, the latest models sold by Apple are now marketed at 279. With this new functionality, Apple could easilyexceed 300 eurosper copy.
