Les AirTags (our handling) are very practical beacons when it comes to storing them in a bag or hanging them on keys. On the other hand, unlike the Tile Slim, it is difficult to insert them into most card holders: they are too large for the latter. Which is quite a shame, as this typical use of these connected objects has been taken up in the media since their advent.
A YouTuber therefore had the excellent idea of dismantling his AirTag, in order to rearrange the components to make everything more compact. And it is successful: the result does not even exceed the3,8 mmthick! What's more, the operation which enabled this feat can be seen entirely on video:
3D printing and moving stack
To achieve this end, several steps were necessary. First, we had to remove the battery and its cover to access the internal body of the AirTag. Then, via careful reverse engineering, the printed circuit and other electronic materials are separated from the shell of the accessory, here adorned with an engraving with a monkey emoji. To finish, simply print in three dimensions a support thin enough to accommodate the battery separatelywhich poses a problem for Australiansand the rest of the carcass.
We then obtain an object that can easily be stored alongsideyour Apple Card. Moreover, as we can also see in the images above, it continues to function without problem as an AirTag. We actually recognize the geolocation function of the companion app, which works perfectly here.
The connected wallet alternative
If, however, you neither want to invest in a new wallet nor put your AirTags through this dissection, then smart wallets may be for you. They also include a Bluetooth chip, they can even sound like an alarm if someone tries to rob you.
Product prices range from thirty to one hundred euros, in general. For example, the Walli brand offers a small size model for 80 dollars (around 73 euros), as well as a large size version for 119 dollars (nearly 98 euros).
