A recent survey signed ITV News has highlighted areal ecological scandal orchestrated by Amazon. We already knew that the online sales giant destroyed many products received in return from dissatisfied customers.
But ITV News reveals practiceseven more amazing. In the United Kingdom, Amazon destroys millions of unsold products each year, including new products, still in cellophane. Among them, there are obviously products marked with apple such as airpods, iPads or MacBook…
The result of the investigation, carried out directly at Amazon under cover, and using employees of the firm, list of edifying figures:
- 130,000 products are labeled each week as “to destroy”
- Half of them are new, still packed, the other half constitutes returns from unsatisfied customers
Apart from destroying objects of great value, such as iPad or MacBook, Amazon would act in this way with any article embarrassing its stocks. One of the people interviewed working on behalf of Amazon says they have already seen pallets of protective masks against the COVID-19 in new state from destruction.
The reason for this practice is simple: the storage of products costs money. So if a product remains too long in Amazon warehouses, especially on behalf of third -party sellers, without being sold, then it must be destroyed.
For his defense, an Amazon official reacted to ITV news journalists specifying that the destruction of products would not concernthat a very small part of the stocks. In addition, the online sales giant would work hard todestroy fewer articles, while at the same time, it would be more and more redirected to recycling or donation of unsold products to charity organizations.
All the same, in one of the Scottish warehouses of Amazon, in Dunfermline, 28,000 products were found during the investigation with a “to give” label, while at the same time 124,000 products were labeled “to destroy”.
A funny operation in any case, while Amazon recently added a new mention “ClimatePLEDGE Friendly” to some of its products, such as the Echo speaker, highlighting a certain ecological commitment…
