App Store: Dutch competition authority investigates Apple's practices

The App Store had recently recordeda small drop in downloads, however this does not prevent Apple's application store from generating significant revenue for the Apple firm.

In the Netherlands, the competition authority has just launchedan investigation into possible abuse of Apple's position regarding the App Store.

More precisely, this authority or ACM has received complaints from many Dutch developers, thatApple would promote its own apps on the App Store, and would not applynot the same treatment for third-party applications.

The ACM (Authority for Consumers and Markets) particularly mentions editorial lists of apps, apps highlighted by App Store teams, app collections and other articles on developers.

Apple would not respect its own App Store rules for its apps, as we have seenrecently with the News app. The Apple News+ service registration page violates several rules put in place by Apple. This would result in the app being refused if it came from a third-party developer.

At the same time, Spotify has been complaining for several months about the commission received by Apple, to be able to offer its service to iOS users. This puts Spotify in difficulty against Apple Music, because Spotify's subscription is increased by 30% on iOS.
