Launched in 2008, a year after the first iPhone, the application store for iOS increased the possibilities of the iPhone and iPad, with numerous apps, but also mobile games.
Every year, the number of iOS devices continues to increase, as well asapp downloadson the App Store. Except that this last metric has just experienced afirst decline in several years.
Indeed, according to data from the firm Morgan Stanley, for thefirst time since at least 2015, in the last quarter, the number of downloads recorded an increasedrop of 5%compared to the same period last year.
This astonishing information comes to us in a context where Apple announced last January that there ismore than 900 million active iPhonesworldwide, an increase of 75 million compared to last year.
Several reasons can explain this decline in downloads, such as “app fatigue” syndrome. Namely, faced with an ocean of applications, users download fewer applications than before. They delete many apps from their device to keep only the essentials.
However, all is not dark for the App Store. This drop may only be temporary. Additionally, this does not prevent the App Store from recording a15% increase in revenuefor the same quarter.
This increase is largely attributed to mobile games in China, another sign of the importance of the Chinese market for Apple.
