App Store: we can now rate Apple applications

We don't yet know when this happened, but it did: it is now possible to evaluate the services offered by Apple on iPhone, iPad and Watch. To do this, simply leave a possible comment accompanied by a score ranging from one to five stars (the maximum). A system that does not differ from the options offered to give opinions on other publishers for several years.

This change echoes the recent grievances of many government authorities towards the behavior of Cupertino, sometimes considered anti-competitive. Indeed, the firm is notably accused of largely favoring its own platforms to the detriment of the competition, as Spotify deplores for example in the face of Apple Music. The opportunity to return, precisely, to the results of some of these successes.

Already mixed opinions

Mail

On the App Store, Mail gets an overall rating of 3.4/5: it must be said, that's not much. It's hard to know why, butrecent security breaches that may have affected this mailboxperhaps have something to do with it.

Translate

Google Translate's competitor is rated 2.5/5, just average. Users particularly highlight the absence of instant text translation via the camera, which Alphabet offers. A gap which could however be filled by the arrival ofthe smart Live Text feature, landed with the update to iOS 15.

Wallet / Cards

4.5/5: this is the much better rating given to Apple Pay, which offers the possibility of paying for purchases without taking out your credit card or even scanning your plane tickets in the blink of an eye. Yet withan adoption rate appears to be relatively low, the offer therefore promises to be one of the most pleasant developed by Cupertino. Unfortunately, even today some banks are not compatible with its standards, especially cryptos.

Plans

It's no surprise that Apple's cards end up with a rather average score of 3.7/5. These are in fact regularly singled out for their errors since their beginnings, even though serious improvements to their content have since been put online.

Among the positive comments, we note among others:

  • car navigation “well done
  • very detailed three-dimensional plans
  • Look Around, better than Street View although only available in certain regions

As for the disadvantages, here is a quick selection:

  • no display of speed limits
  • bicycle journeys still incomplete in France
  • years behind the competition” (it is true that Plans was released in 2012, for example, compared to 2005 for Maps)
  • a certain bug name
