Who uses Apple Pay in store? The service would not be popular

Surprise: according to a recent survey byPYMNTS, only 6% of iPhone users would use its functionality to pay for their purchases using NFC. A figure obtained certainly based on a sample of 3,671 Americans, but which would not even take into account those who have not scanned any bank cards in Apple Wallet. Probably a hard blow for its publisher, who has nevertheless continued to promote it for almost six years now.

Worse: adoption would actually be lower than after the launch of Pay, with a record around 6.9% in 2017. Difficult to understand why, nevertheless the multiple scandals linked to the confidentiality of personal data which pass through our mobiles may have something to do with it – even if Cupertino seems to be resolutely positioning itself in favor of security.

Competition could soon arrive

According to Australia, only offering Apple Pay as a platform for transactions would be a serious error to be rectified. Local authorities believe that iOS should open up to competition, which would then – potentially – allow it to see alternatives such as Google Pay or Samsung Pay arrive. With, ultimately, more choice for the consumer but also for merchants.

However, other statistics compiled in research byPYMNTSshow that Apple Pay remains the most popular solution on the market with no less than 45.5% market share to date, a sharp increase over one year (+17.2 points). Second, PayPal would not convince a quarter of those surveyed, far ahead of Alphabet and its timid 10.3%.

And you ?

This is an opportunity to ask your opinion: which payment solution do you prefer on a daily basis? And above all, how often do you use it? In France, uses are sometimes very different from the United States. What's more, banks do not have the same rules and are relatively slow when it comes to implementing an innovation that is king in Asia and on the other side of the Atlantic.
