Google Pay on iPhone and Watch, for a good cause?

Australia, to which we already owesome vehemence against AirTags, spoke with Apple employees as part of a new case. The country's officials believe that the firm should make the NFC chip in its iPhones accessible to third-party developers who market contactless payment solutions. And for good reason: to date, only Apple Pay is authorized on these mobiles.

Android, conversely, gives the possibility to all publishers who show their credentials to deploy their alternative to Google Pay. Among the first to have experienced it, we can notably citeSamsung which with its eponymous platform offers the possibility of digitizing its credit cards such as those published by Banque Populaire. What's more, the app can also connect to PayPal and Lydia.

According to the local parliament, forcing Apple to open up to competition is a matter of respecting the competitiveness of businesses. An argument that has continued to generate ink in recent months, whether regarding music streaming where Spotify considers itself wronged or on the side of Tile key rings, finally authorized to present their devices within the 'Locate app.

For other studios, Apple's behavior is particularly blocking. By limiting access to the NFC sensor, Cupertino automatically deprives them of nearly a billion active smartphones across the globe, or around half of all those in circulation according to the most recent studies.

In response to questions from MPs, Apple obviously reiterated its usual promise of security. In an open letter to elected officials, Tim Cook's company ensures that its practices exist mainly in the interest of the consumer. Thus, in the same vein as the ban on toy libraries withsideloading, no theft of personal (or worse: financial) data is likely to come from a malicious actor who has slipped through the cracks of the App Store's very closed verification system.

Despite everything, Apple is not exempt from major flaws either. The Pegasus case, still ongoing, is a firm reminder that the inviolability of software is more of a myth on which marketing teams capitalize than a true, unparalleled protection.
