Apple offers 70 million euros to help small businesses

In the land of calm mornings, in 2019,iPhonewould represent 18% of the market share for all smartphones combined. Indeed, it is Samsung, a local company whose head office has its own skyscrapers in Seoul, which would occupy the top of the podium with 65% of market share.

However, as is the case in Europeand in the United States, Apple is under investigation by competition authorities. We will not go into details, but it is once again a question ofabuse of dominant position, a type of business to which the Apple brand is now subscribed, especially since its successful breakthrough into the service sector.

A payment to settle the conflict

In order to put an end to the investigation by the KFTC (Korea Fair Trade Commission) which is targeting it, in particular because of anti-competitive behavior among South Korean operators, Apple would then have proposed to offerone hundred billion wonto help customers and small businesses in South Korea.

Unlike thedonation announced by Tim Cook to fight forest fires, it therefore only seems to be a financial movement well placed to avoid a potentialfinehigher. However, in the time of COVID-19, many companies whose revenue is negatively impacted by the pandemic could well benefit.
