Apple Car: a smarter belt buckle in the works?

  • An Apple patent revisits the seat belt buckle
  • The brand could soon unveil an autonomous car
  • The secret project would also give pride of place to CarPlay apps

According to a newly discovered patent, Apple is considering a way to make belt bucklesmore accessibleby car. The black and red box that we all know could change color. The objective here would be twofold. On the one hand, it would be a question of being able to illuminate the place to aim for to better navigate in the dark. And on the other hand, to indicate when the belt has been correctly fastened or if, on the contrary, the operation remains to be carried out.

Such a value proposition is obviously reminiscent of the secret project for a connected, electric and driverless vehicle that Apple seems to be preparing in secret. The press has been reporting on it for several years now, but the release schedule for this new product remains questionable and would have already been postponed many times in any case.

After the Vision Pro, Apple's next revolution

Despite everything, the one that could be called “Apple Car” continues to generate ink. And for good reason: until now, aloneCarPlayallows you to benefit from a 100% controlled interface within a passenger compartment, but only via third-party manufacturers. But with its car, Cupertino could conversely offer the design and know-how that have characterized its products for several generations within a completely new vertical.

Recently, the Apple firm also launched into a new sector with the mixed reality headsetApple Vision Pro. A product which again is unlikely to see the light of day any time soon. Its release date in the United States is expected next year, but we may still have to wait many months to be entitled to it in France.

Other great features

Among the advantages of the Apple Car, beyond its autonomous driving, several patents also suggest that the interior will be lined with screens of all kinds offering access to apps also available on visionOS or iOS. Integration with the iPhone will obviously be required, too.

The only downside, and not the least: the price. According to recent estimates, thiscouldthus be particularly high, so as not to break the brand's pricing habits.
