Apple ready to make an unexpected choice for its next Apple silicon chips

In November 2020 Apple presented its first chipsApple Silicon. Under the name M1, a real revolution is occurring in the world of computing. Performance is multiplied, and Intel must admit defeat. A real tour de force on the part of Apple, which does not seem to have been reproduced since.

Whilethe M4 chip was announced this year, it is not that much more powerful than the M3, itself slightly stronger than the M2. But all this could change soon on the Cupertino side, with the arrival of the M5 chip. In any case, this is what the latest report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo assures.

New architecture

This financier working for TF Securities ensures that TSMC is working on a “revolutionary” chip for Apple. With the next M5 Pro, the Taiwanese manufacturer would have succeeded inseparate the GPU and the CPU into two separate elements. The grouping of these two components was however one of the strengths of Apple Silicon chips against the competition.

But according to Kuo's information, only the M5 chip will still be made from a single block. All other versions of the chip (Pro, Max and Ultra) will be built in two different parts. According to the analyst, this working method would allowto significantly improveproduction yields and thermal performances».

A release at the end of next year?

For Kuo, this new chip should arrive during the second half of 2025. Only the “Ultra” version will be reserved for 2026. These new type of chips could also be used by Apple internally, to develop Apple Intelligence. This work around artificial intelligence seems very important for Apple. It could allow Apple to catch up with its competitors.

In addition to this new architecture, the M5 chips should have the right to TSMC's N3P technology. This method of etching silicon saves even more space and increases the efficiency of electronic circuits. It should arrive in September 2025 on the iPhone 17 before spreading to the rest of Apple's range.
