Apple behind Samsung in global mobile sales market

IDC, a renowned firm when it comes to scrutinizing the international mobile phone market, has just announced its figures for the second quarter of 2022. We discover that Samsung would occupy first place among global sellers with 21.8%. of market share for 62.4 million devices sold, Apple being in second position for15.6% market share and 44.6 million deliveries.

Several products are competing for the title of most popular smartphone, such asl’iPhone 13 Pro. Featuring a large 6.1-inch display, the phablet is powered by an A15 Bionic chip coupled with 6 GB of RAM and offers a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second. Next to it, the iPhone 13 Pro Max and its 6.7 inches is more imposing but also more expensive; from 1,259 euros compared to 1,159 euros for its little brother.

Xiaomi, number 3

With 13.8% market share, Xiaomi would be third in the ranking for 39.5 million mobiles sold. It is25.5% lessthan the IDC estimates published for the second quarter of 2021, which therefore signals a big drop for the Chinese despite the good performance of theXiaomi Mi 11 Ultraand that of the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

Growth isn't really there at Apple either, given that only0.5% more iPhones were soldif we compare the periods from April to June between 2021 and 2022. This could be explained, among other things, by the shortage of chips causing delays in orders but also bythe coronavirus crisis having resumed at the same time in China, Cupertino's leading mobile market.

Android in free kick!

In fourth position on the IDC list, we findVivowith 8.7% market share for 24.8 million smartphones having found buyers, compared to 31.6 million in 2021, a drastic drop of almost 22 points. Finally, it is no surprise Oppo which closes the ranking with very similar results: 24.7 million mobiles sold for 8.6% market share, or 24.6% less than in the second quarter of 2021.

Huawei, for its part, has completely disappeared from the statistics. The United States embargo against it following suspicions of espionage will have caused it to lose millions of potential new owners there.
