While we recently learned
thatApple would have a whole team active in the field of reality
virtual(several
hundreds of employees), that's whatJeremy Bailensen, the
director of a Stanford laboratory specializing in virtual reality
added his grain of salt. He actually said thathis lab welcomes
regularly people from the apple firm, but that he
would not know the ins and outs of the work carried out by these
visitors to his place:
Or he simply wouldn't be allowed to talk about it,clause of
confidentiality required. In any case, the laboratory in question has already
been the place of experimentation for several tech companies recently, including
Facebook, which, let us remember, acquiredd’Oculusin 2014,
one of the precursors of virtual reality headsets.
And while
Tim Cook remains rather evasive on the subject of virtual reality, having
indicated his interest in the field, without saying too much about any
involvement of the firm in the apple, different indices overlap and make
think that Apple is indeedon a war footing regarding
concerns virtual and/or augmented reality.
The elements in evidence are the headset patent filed by Apple (see image
above),
fresh recruitmentfrom one of the greatest American specialists
of human-machine interaction and the takeover, last year,of
several companies linked directly or indirectly to the field in
question.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict at this time how and when the
Cupertino company will get involved in the field of virtual reality, if
I hope she does it well one day.
