Surprise iMac update: what's changing under the hood!

Afterthe iPad range yesterday, it's the turn of Macs toget an update today. Always with this in mind to leave no room for hardware announcements during thenext keynote, Apple has discreetlyput its new iMacs online. It is mainly arefresh of the range for new 8 and 9 generation CPUs from Intel. No big changes to report other than that, not even concerning the design of the beast:

Apple's iMac lineup now welcomes8th and 9th generation processors. The update was long overdue, given that 2018 was a blank year for Apple's all-in-one. The last release concerns the iMac Pro, at the end of 2017. An update for non-Pro iMacs also took place in June of the same year.

Still, the iMac range currently looks like this:

• 21.5-inch dual-core iMac from 2017: starts with a 7th generation i5 2.3 GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Count1 299 eurosfor this basic version
• New 21.5-inch Retina 4K iMac and quad-core CPU: starts with an 8th generation i3 3.6 GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Its price:1 499 euros

By pushing the CPU to a 6-core i5 at 3 GHz and with a better graphics card,the 21.5-inch iMac reaches 1,699 euros.

On the model side27 inches:

• New 27-inch 3GHz iMac: starts with a 3 GHz 6-core i5 CPU (8th generation), 8 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage. Count2,099 euros in this case
• New 27-inch 3.1 GHz iMac: starts with a 3.1 GHz 6-core i5 CPU (8th generation), 8 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage and more powerful graphics card. Price of2 299 euros

The 27-inch iMac is also configurable with 9th generation Intel processors. The 9th generation Model i5 at 3.7 GHz, 8 GB of RAM and 2 TB of storage is for example sold2 599 euros.

Note that you can push the iMac up to a 3.6 GHz 8-core Intel i9 processor, 64 GB of RAM, 2 TB of SSD and a Radeon Pro Vega 48 graphics card.high-end configuration reaches 6,139 euros.

The update therefore generally only brings a change of CPU for more recent and powerful models. The RAM is also clocked at 2,666 MHz instead of 2,400 on older models, to go hand in hand with the new processors.

We would have rather bet on an update of the iMacs around June and theWWDC already announced. A design change for the iMac was also predicted by some specialist analysts. But we will have to be satisfied with thisonly update for the iMac in 2019 a priori.

The new models arealready available to order, forfirst deliveries from March 27.
