Apple is reducing the workforce assigned to its autonomous car project

Aftera recent announcement from Appleregarding a drop in turnover, Apple held an internal meeting with its employees to take stock of the company's situation.

During this meeting, Tim Cook spoke, among other things, aboutthe impact of this drop on recruitmentand certain projects, such as the Apple Car. Apple has just officially confirmed with the American channel CNBC that it hasreduces the workforce assigned to its autonomous car project,Apple Car.

More specifically, Apple hasremoved 200 employeesof its Apple Car project, to reassign them to other projects within Apple, and in particular the artificial intelligence division.

However, according to an Apple spokesperson, the firm continues to believe “there is a huge opportunity with autonomous driving systems.”

He also claims “that Apple has unique capabilities to contribute to the project, and that it is the most ambitious machine learning project”.

This does not mean that this project is abandoned, but that Apple is devotingfewer resources, preferring to concentrate onother larger projects, like that of artificial intelligence.

In June 2017, a rare thing, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple was indeed working on an autonomous driving project. Usually, Apple does not share information about projects in development.
