While Apple has just made theiPhone SE 2022, rumors continue to circulate about the Cupertino company's next high-end devices. All sources agree that this year, Apple will no longer offer a “mini” model.
This would instead offer an iPhone 14, an iPhone 14 Max, an iPhone 14 Pro and an iPhone 14 Pro Max. And according to an article recently published by 9to5Mac, which relays a publication allegedly made by analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the new A16 Bionic chip would be reserved for Pro models, while the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max models would be content of the same A15 Bionic chip as the seriesiPhone 13.
It's normal to be perplexed by this new rumor, since it suggests that Apple will break with its traditions. But it should also be remembered that Kuo is one of the most reliable sources when it comes to rumors about future Apple products.
This already happened in 2015
Furthermore, the site 9to5Mac claims to have been able to independently corroborate this information. Another source would have indicated to the site that Apple is developing two models equipped with the A16 Bionic chip, and two other models with the A15 Bionic chip.
The last time Apple used two different chips for the same generation of devices was in 2015. Indeed, while the iPhone 5S was equipped with the A7 chip, the iPhone 5C used an older chip and less efficient: the A6 chip.
In essence, if this information is true, the iPhone 14 would therefore have no (or almost no) performance gain compared to the iPhone 13, with regard to the CPU and GPU. On the other hand, according to the 9to5Mac article, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max would have more RAM memory than the iPhone 13: 6 GB instead of 4 GB.
We also expect the iPhone 14 Pro to differ from the iPhone 14 in other elements of the technical sheet. For example, the ProMotion screen with 120 Hz refresh rate could still be reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Additionally, these “Pro” models should also have a better camera. And according to some rumors, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will still have a notch on the screen while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max could have a different design.
