Summary Keynote March 2022: iPhone SE and iPad Air 5G, Mac mini Studio and other new features

A conference this early in the year is not usual for Apple. Indeed, the last time that the Californian firm held a Keynote during the second week of March was in 2015, on the 9th of the month precisely. And at the time, the company revealed a major product in its history, the Apple Watch.

Can we say that Tim Cook was in a hurry to tell us about his new products? Maybe so, especially since recent rumors have greatly increased expectations regarding tonight's announcements.

Introduction

After a beautiful musical introduction, Tim Cook arrived on stage soberly, in an amphitheater filled with... empty seats... Without waiting a second, he, as now seems to be a habit for Apple, moved on to the next content to come on Apple TV+ by broadcasting an extremely well-crafted trailer, with the flavor of a Hollywood trailer! The start of this Keynote sends some, that’s for sure!

After the short film presenting the new Apple TV+ features, it was an excited Tim Cook who announced the new feature: the arrival of the American baseball league on Apple TV+, with exclusive matches to watch every Friday evening on the platform with apple.

Then, the CEO moved on to things a little more serious, the iPhone.

iPad Air 5G (M1)

Notable Features of the iPad Air M1

iPhone 13 with new finishes

Tim Cook himself announced two new finishes for the iPhone: theBright greenand theAlpine green. The first covers the iPhone 13 (and 13 mini), the second the iPhone 13 Pro (and 13 Pro Max)

These new finishes will be available for pre-order fromthis Friday March 11 at 2 p.m., with in-store availability and deliveries from18 mars. They don't change prices of course.

Apple silicon: a new chip

A new Apple silicon chip completes the M1 family. This is the M1 Ultra. Here are some details about it:

• Power :the M1 Ultra is announced to be even more efficient than the M1 Pro and the M1 Max, 8 times faster than the M1 chip for example
• Conception :it is actually two M1 Max chips connected together via UltraFusion technology. The SoC is seen as a single chip by software
• RAM:supports up to 128 GB of unified memory
• Some figures:20 cores for the CPU part, up to 64 cores for the GPU part and 32 cores for the Neural Engine part

The new Mac Studio computer

The main features of Mac Studio

• SoC :M1 Max or M1 Ultra
• Design :Mac mini case twice as high, all in aluminum
• Dimensions :7.7 inches by 7.7 inches, and 3.7 inches in height (dimensions in cm to come)
• Cooling:a large fan lets fresh air penetrate throughout the case. The heat comes out through a grill at the back
• Connectivity:4 Thunderbolt 4 ports, 1 10 Gb/s Ethernet port, 2 USB-A ports, 1 HDMI jack and 1 headphone jack on the back, 2 USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4 compatible if M1 Ultra CPU) and 1 card port SDXS at the front
